Aurora's Only Rigorous, Arts-Integrated Education for Kindergarten through 12th Grade

At the Charles Burrell Visual & Performing Arts Campus, students are immersed in comprehensive arts programs and rigorous academics so that they are ready to pursue creative careers or college degrees. Extensive performances and exhibitions give students opportunities and platforms to display their talents so that they become confident and develop their artistic potential. Our inspiring faculty who are practicing artist/educators work with students individually and encourage intellectual and artistic curiosity so that students work toward advanced levels of creative and artistic professionalism. Our diverse and talented staff and students create a community of shared passion, diverse perspectives, knowledge, skills, and professional expertise where students develop self-awareness and become well-rounded artist-scholars.

Kindergarten - 8th Grade Curriculum

Arts-Integrated and Standards-Based

Students at Burrell Arts K-8 engage in an arts-integrated, standards-aligned core curriculum in a small school environment. Students also receive 90 minutes of dedicated daily arts instruction through our Art Studios.

9th - 12th Grade Curriculum

Multimedia & Performing Arts

To join this pathway, students apply, interview, and audition. Students on this pathway receive an arts-integrated, standards-aligned core curriculum. Students must major in multimedia arts or performing arts. Students then choose a field of study called Creative Labs. Our labs give students a space for creative experimentation.

Admission

The Magnet School Application Process allows families from Aurora and anywhere in the Denver Metro area to apply to a school other than their boundary school. There are different criteria for each grade level, so please be sure to read the website carefully. Depending on grade-level, we may conduct a lottery or hold an interview or audition. Please note that as an APS Magnet School, we are part of Aurora Public Schools and are not a charter school.

Inspiration

Charles Burrell has enjoyed an outstanding career as a bassist for the Denver Symphony Orchestra and is also considered a master jazz bassist; one of the few musicians to have mastered both genres. His life and legacy exemplify the mission of Aurora Public Schools new arts magnet campus -- the Charles Burrell Visual & Performing Arts Campus.
